SDC founded in 2001 by David Bower and Isolte Avila, Signdance Collective develops original performances using signdance, the unique visual language they created over twenty years ago. Talking with Hands
Large group of profoundly deaf and hard of hearing people became frustrated with the way the cinema world treated us. We wanted equal access to the cinema. We soon realised that the only way things would change was to take positive action ourselves. Comments: 0; Added: 29-12-2007)

British Deaf Football
GB has a very rich football history spanning back to 1924 where they participated in the First International Games in Paris 1924. Although they lost 2-0 to the French hosts, they captured gold at the second attempt in Amsterdam 1928. It is interesting to note that one footballer who was injured, insisted on taking part in an athletics race that he hobbled around the track in last place! Comments: 0; Added: 06-02-2009)

Bournemouth Deaf Club
The Deaf Centre was originally a Baptist Church, which bought for the Deaf in the 1940's with funds donated by the Lockyer family. Hence the name Lockyer Hall. From the 1940's the Hall was used by the Deaf as a Social club and regular church services were held until the 1970's. During the 1970's and the 1980's the club deteriorated mainly because of the poor heating system but it continued to be used for occasional church services. During this period the premises became very derelict. In 1987 Mr. Keith Simmons began a three-year campaign to regain possession of the Lockyer Hall premises and successfully received the keys of the Hall in June 1990. Comments: 0; Added: 29-07-2008)

Aberdeen & North East Deaf Society
The Aberdeen & North East Deaf Society was first established in 1895 and was originally known as the Aberdeen Deaf and Dumb Benevolent Society. (Please note that the terminology 'Deaf & Dumb' is no longer considered to be politically correct). With changes in legislation, local authorities became responsible for providing statutory social work services. The Aberdeen & North East Deaf Society became an agent of the local authority with a social work service agency agreement with what was then known as Grampian Regional Council, to provide a professional social work service based on local authority guidelines, for the Grampian area.
