Irish Deaf Golf Union (IDGU) was founded in 1995 by some golfing enthusiasts with about eight members at that time. IDGU has grown in strength over the years and now averages 35 members a year.

World Deaf Golf Federation
Before the establishment of the World Deaf Golf Federation, the founding members: Canada, United States, Australia, Scotland, and England met in Battle Creek, Michigan, USA on 13 July 1994. This meeting finally happened after Kevin Whalley of England spent eight years searching for deaf golf organisations and had the desire to have the 1st World Deaf Golf Championship. At the conclusion of the meeting, the founding members agreed to form the WDGF and the 1st WDGC would be held in England in 1995.

English Deaf Golf Association
The EDGA was formed originally for the provisions of competitions for deaf golfers at both local and regional levels and due to the developement of the organistation, it now includes national events. The EDGA also organises a team to compete against other countries in the World Deaf Golf Championships held every four years. The England Team also competes in the Four Nations cup against Ireland, Wales and Scotland every two years.
